Transfer from infant to junior or primary school

Children transferring from infant to junior or primary school in September 2025 must have been born between 1 September 2017 and 31 August 2018.

If your child attends a primary school, you do not need to apply for a junior school place. Your child will automatically transfer to year 3 at the same school.

However, if your child attends an infant school, you must apply for them to transfer to another school for their junior education.

If there are more applications than places at Â鶹ÊÓƵ Community schools, we will offer places in the following order of priority:

  1. looked after children or children who were previously looked after (including previously looked after children from outside of England)
  2. children who are attending the linked infant school when their parents apply and who will still be attending at the end of year 2
  3. children (siblings) with an older brother or sister at the infant or junior school who will still be attending the school when they start
  4. children who live nearest the school

Check the Primary School admissions arrangements, which will be updated on 1 October 2024 for individual academies, voluntary aided, free and foundation schools, for the details of their oversubscription criteria.

Â鶹ÊÓƵ runs a coordinated admissions scheme with neighbouring local authorities.

If your child is attending an infant school in another local authority and you are applying for a place at the linked junior school, then we recommend that you contact them for their admissions arrangements as this will help you to decide if your application is likely to be successful.

Â鶹ÊÓƵ will only deal with applications for school places if you live in Â鶹ÊÓƵ and pay council tax to the authority.

If you live in Â鶹ÊÓƵ, you must still make your application to Â鶹ÊÓƵ.
