World Alzheimer's Month - September 2024

The theme for 2024 is 'Time to act on dementia, Time to act on Alzheimer's'.

Throughout September, various events, activities, and initiatives will take place mark World Alzheimer's Month. The key aims of this year’s campaign is to raise awareness and challenge stigma surrounding Alzheimer's and dementia.

We will be promoting the events and activities below.

Alzheimer’s Society Â鶹ÊÓƵ Memory Walk

Alzheimer’s Society Â鶹ÊÓƵ Memory Walk, Sutton Park on Saturday 14 September 2024.

A community-based walk and run organised to raise funds for Alzheimer's research and support services.

Dementia Community Networking Event and Lunch

Dementia Community Networking event and lunch on Wednesday 18 September from 10:00am to 2:00pm at St Germains Church, City Road, Edgbaston, B17 8LE.

  • Hear from organisations that support groups, citizens living with dementia and dementia carers.
  • Learn more about dementia through workshops and engage in wellbeing

World Alzheimer's Day

World Alzheimer's Day is part of the awareness month and takes place on Saturday 21 September.

This year, the focus is particularly on post-diagnosis support for individuals living with Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia.

On this day the Library of Â鶹ÊÓƵ will be lit up in purple in recognition of World Alzheimer’s Day. Drop by the Wellbeing Zone from midday to 4:00pm to find out more about dementia.

  • Alzheimer’s Society, Forward Carers will have an information/advice stand.
  • Our Public Health department will promote dementia friendly venues.
  • AmbaCare Solutions will deliver 20 minute ‘Taster Sessions on Brain Health’ at the Wellbeing Zone at midday and 2:00pm.
  • Free blood pressure checks by the on behalf of Â鶹ÊÓƵ and Solihull NHS.

There are a variety of activities planned throughout September including:

  • free dementia awareness training
  • the offered by Alzheimer’s Society
  • coffee mornings (dates and times to be confirmed)

Dementia cafes

Free to attend and open to anyone living with or caring for/supporting someone with dementia.

Come along to one of our local cafes and have a cup of tea with someone who understands.

    • Selly Park (in the forget me not hub) on Thursday 5 September from 10:30am until 12:30pm. Cafes will be run on the first Thursday of every month.
    • Handsworth Wood ( in the conservatory) on Friday 6 September from 10am until midday.
    • Cafes will be run on the first Friday of every month
    • Moseley (in the cafe) on Tuesday 24 September from 10:30am until 12:30 pm.
    • Cafes will be run on the last Tuesday of every month.
