Highgate area

In the summer of 2019, residents and businesses in the Highgate area of the city were consulted about a proposal to introduce a resident parking scheme in the area.

The scheme is to be an additional measure alongside the Clean Air Zone (CAZ) to discourage people from driving into the CAZ and parking all day for free on local residential streets.

The CAZ became operational within the A4540 ring road on 1 June 2021. However, the implementation of the residents parking scheme in the Highgate area was delayed.

We remain committed to delivering the Highgate controlled parking zone. An additional period of public consultation was carried out between February and March 2024.

The consultation provided useful feedback to consider and prompted a review of the Highgate designs. Some minor changes have been made to the designs where it was feasible to do so.

The Highgate scheme is now ready to progress to the legal stage of the process. A legal document needed to make changes on road, called a Traffic Regulation Order, will be put in place and consulted on. Further details on this will be made available as soon as possible.
