How to get there and parking

The main entrance is at the end of Reservoir Road.

Pedestrian entrances on Rotton Park Road, Icknield Port Road, Mariner Way and Gillot Road (this entrance has steps).

About the park

This 70-acre open-water site is a haven for walkers, joggers, nature lovers and those looking to try their hand at sailing and rowing. The reservoir is surrounded by woodland and grassland and visitors can enjoy the 2.8 km (1.75 miles) path around the edge of the reservoir.

As well has being a great recreational hub, it is a designated Local Nature Reserve and a site of historic importance. The area supports a variety of birdlife and is also a valuable city site for animals such as newts and bats.

Edgbaston Reservoir was built in 1827 by Thomas Telford as a top up for the Â鶹ÊÓƵ canal system and is still used for that purpose. Before this, it was originally a small body of water called Roach Pool.

Today, it continues to provide significant value in terms of ecology, biodiversity and heritage, and is a destination for water-based sport and recreation.

  • Angling is permitted at Edgbaston Reservoir (fishing suspended from 15 March to 15 June each year to observe the spawning season).
  • The council’s Ranger Service can be contacted to undertake guided walks and educational visits for schools and organised groups. These are a great opportunity to take an active role in caring for your local park or simply to learn more about Â鶹ÊÓƵ's wildlife and green spaces.
